Hansard Society Scholars are not only given an unparalleled insight into the mechanics of parliament during the course of their studies and research internships, but are also provided with fantastic opportunities to meet in person some of the most influential MPs and Lords in British politics. From a casual conversation during a drinks reception at the House of Lords to a politically charged debate in a House of Commons lecture room, our Scholars gain invaluable personal experience, as well as great memories, meeting leading figures at the helm of parliamentary procedure.

The Hansard Society Trustees have announced two Trustees
Scholarship Awards for Autumn 2010 scholars. The scholarships are worth
£500 (GBP) each and will be awarded on the basis of an essay competition. To
enter the scholarship competition, applicants must submit a completed programme
application and supporting documents along with a 1,000 competition essay no
later than June 18th, 2010.

The Summer 2010 Hansard Scholars will be heading north for a political study visit to Edinburgh. The group, comprising undergraduate and postgraduate students from around the world, will journey to the Scottish capital to spend 4 days participating in seminars with politicians and policymakers, and visiting the Scottish Parliament. They will also enjoy a tour of Edinburgh and have the chance to explore the many sights this historically abundant and vibrant city has to offer.

If you're interested in doing a unique political internship in Edinburgh and studying British politics at the world famous Edinburgh University, the Postgraduate Certificate in Government and Public Policy will begin in September, just after Edinburgh's famous International Festival. The Certificate is fully-accredited by the University of Edinburgh.

The Hansard Society is an independent, non-partisan education and research organisation which exists to encourage better parliamentary democracy and greater public involvement in politics. Established in 1944, and supported by Winston Churchill and Clement Attlee, the Society is now the largest and most active campaign organisation in UK aimed at strengthening parliamentary democracy, public engagement and political education.
