Exploring the social and political impacts of technology

Online Campaigning

The eDemocracy team is about to embark on a piece of research that explores how new technologies are being used in the context of electoral campaigns.  The research will have an international focus, comparing the online strategies deployed in a range of countries (from the US to Russia) and asking what lessons and implications there are for the UK.

The research has been commissioned by the Electoral Commission, which is concerned with any regulatory issues that may arise from online campaigning. Our 18-month project will culminate in a written report and a project website will be launched on which we’ll showcase various online campaigns and invite discussion about them.
